For the month of June, I will be offering a $20 print of the photograph titled BED through my website. The idea of a monster hiding under your bed is perhaps the most emblematic of all childhood fears.

The little girl in the photograph is played by my daughter Shiva.
The monstrous arms emerging from under the bed are from a giant Creature Reachers Halloween costume that I bought on sale the day after Halloween.
Hidden in the blocks on the floor are the words ‘DADDY’ and ‘NO’. This was meant to suggest that the real monster was in fact the little girl’s father.
This image was shot in my friend Joel Kraft’s living room. Joel is a musician and songwriter. He has a gentle and beatific personality that would have made him very successful as a hired musician for children’s parties. Before moving away to Portland, Joel was one of my most active collaborators. It is Joel (and his human hand) crawling down the stairs in WOLF. That’s Joel playing the boogeyman in REFRIGERATOR. And CANDY was photographed in his backyard.

I think something being under the bed is the most common fear children have, I have to admit it I had it for a long time, now I find it funny. But being so common and easily imaginable in many different ways, makes it so difficult to portray. I just want to say that this did it for me:) Once again, very beautiful.

stumbled upon your work via geekologie. now i’m a huge fan. i like how your work somewhat terrifies me but i still find it to be very “pretty.” i was wondering if you have some kind of horrible portrayal of disney characters [since you like disney so much], like if they were older or what they would be “off-camera.” so far, i really like your work!

My first visit in your gallery. I´m a mother of six, love horror movies and stories and your photographs were recommended by my oldest daughter. And I am stunned! Feels like the first time I read a horror comic in a supermarket, being 9 yrs old then.
It is fantastic, the way you combine children and monsters, innocence and terror…the result is both beautiful and scary. Your photos take me beyond fear and loath and give me same sort of thrill as Stephen Kings early novels. Thank you

Just discovered your photos and I gotta say I’m loving them!
I never thought I’d find such an amazing gallery with very few photoshop intervention!
Please keep the horror coming.
All best,
Larissa

Yeah that is an awesome looking photo. I would love to see a movie with that story. It’s been done before but from what I can recall predominantly as a horror comedy, or in other words, “Little Monsters” with Fred Savage. So it would be cool to see a legit monster under the bed, scare my kids socks off horror film, short or feature.

I so need to buy several of your pics! I do hope you ship to the UK! I collect “wrong art” and I think you fit that genre.
Fab!
